Meet Hoagie
Hind limb prosthesis rather than amputation
Meet Hulk Hoagie, or as his friends call him, Hoagie. He was rescued from the wonderful group Big Dogs Huge Paws where his forever mom, Katherine, volunteers. Katherine has spent much energy and dedication teaching Hoagie to learn that other humans and dogs mean well. This is important because Hoagie is over 100lbs.
Hoagie came to Katherine with a prosthesis because he was missing his left hind leg paw. See x-ray and pictures.
No one knows how this happened, but he does not use the leg without a prosthesis. His initial prosthesis did not fit well and so Hoagie came to see Dr. Mich. That was 3 years ago. Dr. Mich fixed the fit on the red, white and blue prosthesis and designed a back up device. He now has 2 prosthetic legs that he alternates using. He goes for walks and romps and plays in the yard. Without a prosthesis Hoagie won’t stand on the left hind leg.
Katherine says he is a big bundle of love and brings her joy each day. He is a sweet and happy boy. Handsome too!
In Katherine’s words:
We were incredibly lucky to find Dr. Mich. From the moment I rescued Hoagie, she has worked with him in customizing his devices, which have changed his life to the point that he doesn't even realize he is missing his paw. He thinks he can do anything! They allow him to run, jump and basically behave like every other dog. I couldn't imagine him not having them. And we are forever grateful to Dr. Mich for all her care, knowledge, patience and understanding. She has really allowed Hoagie to have the life every dog deserves.
