Meet Oreo
Front Limb Prosthesis instead of Amputation
My name is Oreo. I am a 5 year old Siberian Husky. I live with my human mom, dad, and sister. I did have two older dog brothers but they had to go to doggie heaven.
I came to see Dr. Mich because I was born with a birth defect that made my right leg and paw smaller than my other legs, so I have a super skinny leg, a fluffy white paw, and my toe pads are a little wonky.
Dr. Mich made me a super cool device that helps me walk evenly and protects my skinny leg. My mom chose skull and crossbones as the design because I can be a little naughty sometimes (you would think my digging skills would be hindered by my little paw but it works just fine in that department).
Anyway, I get around just fine in my device and everybody wants to know about it so I get a lot of attention, which I love. Thanks to Dr. Mich I didn't have to have my leg amputated, like some other vets recommended, and I am running and playing just like the other dogs.
Update 10/2021:
Oreo has worn her prosthesis since June 2017.
She just achieved her canine good citizen certificate. She is going to start visiting veterans as a therapy dog.
